Last Day in San Jose

Today is our last day in the capital city of San Jose. Although my Spanish has not improved much, our sense of how to best navigate through this busy city of crazy drivers and loud vendors certainly has.

A few things I’ve enjoyed about San Jose–
-the occasional smell of freshly baked bread and sweets wafting through the air as we pass through town
-the prominent arts and culture scene– galleries, museums, theaters
-well kept parks, which create a peaceful oasis amid the surrounding busy streets
-Oscar & Juan’s home, where we’ve been staying– filled with Juan’s beautiful art and their warmth & friendliness
-the spattering of awesome architecture of well-maintained Spanish-style buildings that are a couple centuries old
-the patience and kindness people have shown as we struggle with our Spanglish :]

After strolling through the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica today, we lunched at a place in the neighborhood we’re staying, and grabbed some food to cook for dinner tonight at the local grocery store. We will meet a bus tomorrow morning for a 10 AM departure to Puerto Viejo. PV is about a 4 1/2 hour bus ride along [from what I’ve read] a winding, pothole-ridden road that drops down a mountain to one side.
So, wish us luck.

We will, I’m sure, receive this small beachy town well, though, after falling asleep to car horns and motorcycles the last few nights. We’ll stay in PV, where we hope to lay by the beach, snorkel, hike, ride bikes, and attend the local Saturday morning farmers’ market.

Looking forward to getting my tan on!
